Where to Find Antique and Collectible Clocks

Antique ClocksAre you interested in finding some new and unusual antique and collectible clocks? Sometimes they are easy to find, other times it can take a bit of research, investigation, and looking over time to unearth the perfect piece to add to your collection. Here are some tips on places where you might be able to find old and rare clocks.

Estate Sales

Perhaps the best place to come across some truly rare and unique antique and collectible clocks is at an estate sale or auction. In fact, this is probably your best bet. Estate sales and auctions are usually reserved for households with lots of valuable items that the family doesn’t want to accept yard sales prices for.

Keep an eye out in your local newspaper for notice of estate sales and the day and time when the collection is available for viewing prior to auction. The collection may also be listed online. This will save you a lot of time by avoiding those sales that do not offer the antique and collectible clocks you are seeking.

You may also want to get on your local auction house’s mailing list. This way they can send you advance notice of upcoming auctions along with a description of the estate’s contents.

Wood Cuckoo ClockAntique Expos

Many cities regularly schedule antique shows and expos. The advantage of attending these events is that you don’t have to travel to individual antique shops to view items for sale. In one day you can visit literally hundreds of dealers.

If you don’t see what you are looking for, ask vendors if they will take down your information and keep you in mind when they are out looking for new inventory. Any dealer that specializes in antique and collectible clocks is likely to have a variety of sources and may be your best bet for finding the ideal piece missing from your collection.

Demolitions

If you enjoy collecting big or commercial clocks, you will definitely want to contact any local construction companies that demo buildings. Often, especially when the clock is attached to a building, these historic timepieces get taken to a salvage yard or destroyed. Form a close relationship with the owner of a demolition company and you are bound to be presented with opportunities that other collectors can only envy!

Disney Kids ClockWatch and Clock Repair Services

Another great source for finding antique and collectible clocks is through a repair service. You might be surprised at how many clocks they service and the owner never returns to pick up the repaired piece. Often these shops have clocks for sale.

An additional option is to ask the shop owner to keep on the lookout for a particular model. He or she might be willing to contact the owner of a clock that comes in for repair and ask if it might be for sale. At that point, you can get in touch with the owner and strike up a deal.

This guide should give you a good idea of some unusual sources to find antique and collectible clocks. It may take some time and perseverance, but in the end you just might run across the perfect clock!
